We aim to promote healthy development of young people with rich emotional education and environmental education in the local area. We will create a program aimed at realizing a sustainable local area through learning activities that teach about the local environment, including Lake Biwa.
We propose a day or half-day activity that allows you to tour Lake Biwa, appreciate the natural scenery including the lake, and experience the beauty of nature and Lake Biwa.
Shiga Prefecture has a tourism industry called "Biwaichi." We implemented a program to think about and learn about the conservation of the lake environment through "Biwaichi." "Biwaichi" originally means cycling around Lake Biwa, but in this project, we do not only ride bicycles, but also walk around Lake Biwa and carry out various activities, approaching the conservation of the lake environment from eight perspectives: 1. Landscape 2. Water quality 3. Garbage 4. Industry 5. Biology 6. Ramsar Convention site 7. Earth science 8. Sports.
① Based on the Eight Views of Omi painted by Utagawa Hiroshige, an Edo period ukiyo-e artist, imagine Lake Biwa in the Edo period. Compare the scenery at that time with the scenery today.
② Investigate the garbage situation and water quality at the mouth of the river that flows into Lake Biwa. On the way home, pick up garbage at the lakeside park and water play area.
③ By walking around Lake Biwa, you will identify places where garbage has accumulated and propose solutions to the garbage problem.
④ Look back on the history of Lake Biwa pearls, which was an industry around Lake Biwa, and think about what Lake Biwa was like in the past (1980s)
⑤ Observe plankton under a microscope, observe wild birds, and learn about fish.
⑥ Observe the waterfowl that come to Lake Biwa, learn about the birds that come from far away, and think about what Lake Biwa means to living creatures.
⑦ We will think about ancient Lake Biwa through learning about its formation and geological observations.
⑧ We will go out on Lake Biwa by SUP or canoe and experience the vastness of the lake and the state of the water.
