Ze Ren World Lake Conference 2025

Ze Ren

I am a researcher at the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. My research focuses on the coupling mechanisms and succession dynamics of alpine aquatic-terrestrial ecosystems, with particular emphasis on ecologically fragile interfaces such as alpine meadow-lake transition zones, permafrost-thermokarst lake complexes, and glacial foreland habitats. By integrating frameworks from ecological stoichiometry, ecosystem ecology, and microbial ecology, I have developed pioneering methodologies to quantify ecological stoichiometry at the watershed scale and assess primary succession processes in glacier forefields. I am actively involved in fostering global scientific collaboration by co-organizing three international symposia on alpine cryosphere ecology, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in this field. Currently, I serve on the editorial boards of Watershed Ecology and the Environment and Frontiers journals.
