Wei Zhu

Zhu Wei, male, born in March 1962, is from Pingliang, Gansu Province. He holds a Doctor of Engineering degree in environmental engineering and geotechnical engineering, and is a professor and doctoral supervisor. He serves as the director of the Taihu Lake Research Center at Hohai University, the director of the National Engineering Research Center for Dredging and Sludge Treatment and Utilization, and the director of the Institute of Solid Waste and Resource Recycling. Graduated with a doctorate in civil engineering from a Japanese university. The research mainly focuses on the intersection of water environment and environmental geotechnical engineering. The research directions cover theories and technologies for river and lake pollution control, water quality improvement and ecological restoration, dredging of river and lake bottom sediment and sludge treatment and resource utilization technologies, the mechanism of blue-green algae outbreak, sludge treatment and resource utilization technologies in sewage treatment plants, as well as soil improvement and mud film control technologies in shield tunnel construction. Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses on "Solid Waste Disposal and Resource Utilization", as well as doctoral courses on "Modern Geotechnical Engineering Technology". He served as the chief scientist of the "863" program during the 15th Five-Year Plan period and has presided over more than 90 projects including the National "863" Program, "973" topics, "Water Special Project" topics, the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Marine Public Welfare Project, the National Water Conservancy Public Welfare Project, and the National Key Research and Development Project. One second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and 12 provincial and ministerial-level awards have been won. He has published 127 SCI papers, with an H-index of 43 and over 7,400 citations. He has been included in the list of the world's top scientists by Stanford University. There are 72 authorized invention patents, among which 6 are PCT patents. He is currently the director of the Dredging and Sludge Treatment and Utilization Professional Committee of the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, a standing director of the Water Environment Branch of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, the director of the Urban Water Environment Professional Committee, the deputy director of the Environmental Geotechnical Professional Committee of the China Civil Engineering Society, and a special researcher at the Lake Biwa Museum in Japan, among other positions. In the past five years, over 100 SCI/EI papers have been published in important journals in the field, one monograph and two translations have been published, two textbooks have been co-authored, and more than 70 invention patents and over 40 utility model patents have been authorized.
